Faeries likes and dislikes

Mar 11th, 2008 | By Fiona Broome | Category: Featured articles, How to attract faeries

You do not have to believe in faeries. You must be willing to objectively see what’s going on around you, but you don’t have to believe.

The faeries are real, whether you believe in them or not. They won’t stay where they’re ignored or ridiculed, but they are very, very real.

I fully realize how odd it sounds, to say that I see faeries and interact with them. I mean, I would never mention this in conversation at a corporate cocktail party, and expect to be taken seriously!

However, I really do see them, and others do too, regardless of how they explain them. Even complete skeptics notice the flitting lights and shadows in our home, and often ask what they are. Sometimes I say, “I don’t know,” which is true. At other times, I’ll admit, “We think they’re faeries.”

Regardless of the explanation, the visitor will usually comment that he/she is still seeing these odd little things, later.

So, if you raise an eyebrow as you read this, it’s okay. I know that, whether or not you believe in them, you will see them if they’re nearby.

It will take an open mind to accept their reality.

How to attract faeries

How do you attract faeries? Like other beings, faeries have their own likes and dislikes. It’s difficult to say, “Oh, this will definitely work,” because they’re just like you and me in that respect.

We have our own reasons for going places.

For example, I love libraries but if the librarians are snooty, I won’t go back a second time.

So, if you don’t let the faeries know that you are aware of them and appreciate them, they may not return.

Here are common likes (and dislikes) of faeries:

Likes:

  • Tidiness, order, and cleanliness, especially in the kitchen
  • Bread and cake – little bits set out in the evening
  • Something that clearly invites them. The faerie door is a good example.
  • Milk or water, set out in the evening, perhaps in a nice thimble (but not one made of iron or steel)
  • Glittery and shiny things – small bells, marbles, jewelry (no iron or steel)
  • Music – light, happy music, even singing in the shower can help
  • Low lighting – they are most often seen at dusk and dawn, but a small candle (electric is okay) can guide them to your home

Dislikes:

  • Iron things. Especially scissors left out in plain view. Pins, knives, anything made of iron will frighten them, sometimes.
  • Clutter, disorder, stacks of things that haven’t been sorted, and so on
  • Bells. I know that some faeries like bells, but they are their own bells. If your cat wears a bell, or you have a very rude alarm clock, or something like that, the noise may drive away the faeries.
  • Water. Many “psychic” experiences are attributed to a deep, hidden stream under a building. Some faeries are the opposite: They don’t like to cross a stream, hidden or visible. (Then again, we have plenty of faeries who live in or near the water, so this isn’t a firm rule.)
  • Looking them in the eye. It is said that you can gain control over a faerie, especially a Leprechaun, if you look him/her straight in the eye and hold that gaze.

  1. What the hell is this crap… To everyone out there- Faeries ARE NOT REAL! Neither is Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny!

“You do not have to believe in faeries. You must be willing to objectively see what’s going on around you, but you don’t have to believe.” – this is a bunch of crap, no one believes in them! Morons!

  2. What is your take on the information about faeries on this site?
    http://www.realfairies.net/

  3. super cool!

  4. What about negative Faeries how do you avoid or if need be repell them ?

  5. To Rob:

A friend of mine, Janet Farrar, once told me how she deals with the frightening faeries. She imagines herself much bigger than them, and then she bellows, “**** OFF!” (If you’ve ever met Ms. Farrar, she’s petite and usually very polite. I’m not sure that the faeries are afraid of her, but they’d certainly be startled!)

I’ve used something similar, but simply imagining myself huge seems to be enough.

I’ve also heard people recommend imagining the negative faeries as “pretend” and not real. That seems to diminish their power, although those faeries are very real.

Iron will usually drive away all faeries. It might be the best way to start, if you have a problem with the negative faeries. You can remove the iron and invite the kind faeries back, later.

I’ll write an article about this, later. It’s a good question. Thanks for asking!

  6. To Kay: I browsed the site and it looks lovely… and original. That’s refreshing!

(If you want to annoy the faeries, “borrow” art or articles from a site that the faeries like. *shudder* I wouldn’t do it.)

    Thanks for sharing that link!

  7. To “Ted Williams”:

If the faeries aren’t real and “no one believes in them,” I’m not sure why you bothered to post this comment at all.

Of course faeries are real. If they weren’t, people like you would just shrug off websites by believers.

(And, for the record, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny have roots deep in “the old ways” and — in their original contexts — very real as well. There may not be entities delivering commercially manufactured gifts on their respective holidays, but those of us who connect with earth-based spirituality will affirm that we can receive wonderful gifts. Like the faeries, it’s all a matter of knowing what to look for.)

  8. Hi Fiona,

I like your website very much…lots of good information here. I especially like the suggestion you got from Janet Farrar for dealing with unpleasant (bad) faeries, excellent idea!

Thank you for your nice comment about realfairies.net – we really appreciate it.

  9. Do you know what hypodermic needles are made of?

I’m looking to attract faeries, but I’m diabetic, and any energies that appear to build seem to almost completely dissipate whenever I do anything related to my health. It makes me wonder if my needles are made of iron?

  10. Wow. It’s nice to see a site this nice and plausible! Certianly a nice change of pace. May I ask, as someone interested in further research, what book(s) would you suggst to start with?

  11. What a beautiful site! I’ve also heard that putting thyme on window sills and door thresh holds will attract faeries and I agree with Fiona. It’ kind of like an atheist. They have to know that there is some type of higher being to not believe in it.

  12. Thanks for the concise article about attracting fairies. I’m applying some of these principles as soon as I get off this computer! Even the skeptic must admire the beauty of nature and fairies are manifestations of nature’s beauty.

  13. How do you become one? I read on the internet that you get there dust & add milk & mix it up than you drink it…. But than someone else said that thats not true. So idk….

  14. This is for the People that say this is crap….

why did you take time to Post a comment for it being Crap when your the one who wanted to read this in the first place?
i think that deep inside you know they are real but you dont Do alot of Effort in showing them you want them to come

    trust me
i know they are Real but i am lazy and i wont do alot of things but i start now

  15. If you don’t believe in Fairies (or the magick of the Fae Folk), then why are you here on this site? It’s very rude to come into someone’s space and insult them, and that’s why you CAN’T see them, because you won’t open your mind.

I found this information helpful! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to make my own Faerie Door!

  16. I believe that the fey do exist. You just have to know where and when to look. I have a friend that can see them as well, and one in particular has taken quite a liking to her. I have seen all of her documented evidence and personally, I say if ghosts have been proven to exist, why not faeries, dragons, mermaids, skinwalkers, werewolves, vampires, or anything else out there? I mean how do you explain all the recorded data of several eyewitness accounts dating back to before the Dark Ages? Call those that believe in them what you will, but I do have my own experiences. I was left with a deep gouge on my left arm after I made a joke about a lupine fey attacking one of my friends and it had appeared not long afterward out of no where. I am Wiccan and am used to weird things like this, but not quite as violent.

  17. will fairies come out if it is raining?

  18. Even so, ones beliefs have to be respected weather or not it’s the Easter bunny, Santa Clause, Yahweh, Jesus, the tooth (or any) fairy, etc, etc. Religious wars start over ridicule of other peoples beliefs. Magellan said to a Native “My God is the only one! ” He came back and the “Heathens” defeated him.

Besides there needs to be a respect between minority faiths as the abrahamic majority oftentimes discriminates against Atheist, Wiccans, Scientologist, etc alike.

  19. I WANT TO BELIEVE BUT I AM SCARED AND I WANT TO BE A FAERIE IF POSSIBLE BUT AGAIN I AM SCARED…… HOW CAN I B SURE ITS ALL REAL!!!!! SIGH =(

  20. To Ted Williams

Keep your thoughts to yourself, this is someones belief. If you are only spreading that you think it’s crap, why come on at all?

    Beautiful, really interesting site!! x

  21. wow this is a nice site ^^ ive been looking for a website for a little over an hour but all that stuff just doesnt make sense! i was reading the books Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside. i was wondering if the stuff in there could be real facts on fairies.

also is it true that faeries dont like iron and steel cuz its poison to them and it burns their skin?, (er not literaly in flames!! but like when u touch the hot stove)

  22. this was really insitful for all the sites i’ve been to find out this are just about the disney kind of faeries. they usually say that they are nice carming things that are born from a baby’s laugh. this could be true for certian faerie courts.

thank you so very much for this i needed to know that someone out there actually knew about faeries the real deal.

to ted williams, if you do read this i must tell you that i have seem asrai (which are small faeries) playing outside my grandmothers house when i was a little girl they would aften get tangled in my hair. i was eight of nine. they don’t seem to like to play with 12 year olds. but maybe it was just that i was a yong women then and so for they thought that i forgot about them. i might not have lefting my child hood behind but i do seem them once in a while. i also feed them. milk with honey and bread on top, they love it.

  23. OF COURSE FAERIES ARE REAL!!!
and did you know that everytime someone says they don’t believe in them, one dies!!!

  24. I’ve had faeries around me all my life…not to mention the sames ones have lived with me for all my 19 years of life. Also I love them to death…but what about Pixies…is there a difference between them and faeries or do I just have tricksters among my friends?

  25. Fiona, I recently have begun studying the craft and have some of Farrar’s books. Very wonderful. As for Ted Williams, he sounds bitter and angry so I will try sending some positive enery and blessings his way so he may be enlightened and find peace soon. Blessings to all!

  26. Kassie, I believe that needles are made from steel, which is related to iron. However, I think it’s more likely that the faeries are conscious of your health issues and don’t want to do anything that would cause an adrenaline surge or upset your sugar balance.

In your situation, I think it’s important to be very patient with the faeries, and assure them that you’re okay.

  27. Megan, Among modern books, I recommend anything by Katharine Briggs. There are many wonderful 19th century books, as well, but some can be very difficult to read and wander into fantasy. Briggs’ works are among my favorites for genuine research.

  28. Destiny, thanks for sharing that information about thyme. Some herbs definitely attract the faeries, and it seems likely that thyme would appeal to them.

  29. May, I’ve heard several “recipes” that are supposed to help a person become a faerie. However, I think it’s a little silly. People are who they are, whether they’re part faerie or not. Feeding my cat “people food” won’t make him a human, but I like to think that many of us (and our pets) are close to the faerie world, without changing anything.

  30. Samy, I think you’re right, and I can only be sympathetic when someone insists that faeries aren’t real. To me, it’s like insisting that rainbows aren’t real, either. There may be people who’ve never seen a rainbow (or encountered any evidence of faeries), but what’s real is real, whether people believe or not.

  31. Viviana, I’m not sure that anyone knows why faeries avoid iron and steel, but your explanation is as good as any.

There are also people who feel that the iron symbolizes the Iron Age, which is when people began to ignore or deny the existence of faeries.

  32. Felicity, I’m delighted that this website has been helpful. I’ll have more time to add to it in 2010, and I look forward to sharing more information, then. This site is definitely the real deal, and I hope to reach more people with this kind of information. I think our world needs it more than ever, now.

  33. Cosmic elf, thanks for your comment. However, there are no records of faeries actually dying. A 19th century writer observed a faerie funeral once, but he soon realized that they were just pretending… mimicking a ritual they’d seen in our world.

  34. Jonathon, pixies are generally regarded as one kind of faerie, just as leprechauns are faeries of a different kind, and so on. Pixies can be pranksters, and that can set them slightly apart from some more serious faeries, but… they’re still faeries.

  35. John, thank you so much!

  36. Fiona, is ther any chance that I could see a faerie?
I am 15 so of course i live with my parents and siblings and my house is ussualy a mess, and there are certainly many objects made of iron. Is it adamant that I will not see them If the house is like this? Also, we have no garden and I can not make a garden. The most we have is a backyard where chickens are in a coop. I have been wanting to see them for a long time but never really been able to make my house suitable to contact them.

  37. Faerie tales have been around for ages. People liked to make up things. People still do today.

I personally believe that these ‘faeries’ that you see are devil spirits, fallen angels that have come only to confuse and get you farther away from God. But not everyone believes in God mostly because the Adversary tricks people into believing things that really aren’t what they are.

All supernatural things are devil spirits or fallen angels or demons. Ghosts or Taihbs(Which is ghost in Gaelic) are all devil spirits.
I’ve seen them how they truly are. It is in the Bible. As an Unorthodox Christian we run fellowships and we do not go with popular beliefs given by churches. We are nondenominational, and we do what the Bible and God tells us to do.

  38. Gywnivere (or did you mean to spell it Gwynivere?),

Thanks for sharing your opinions. Let’s agree to disagree. This isn’t a forum for religious debate.

This website discusses faeries. If you think they don’t exist, that we “make up” faeries, or that they’re “devil spirits,” you’ll probably enjoy other websites far more than this one.

    Fiona

  39. I have always been fascinated with Faeries and Pixies. I have always wanted to see one and i hope i do. Where is it most commom to find them? Can they do anything special? Abilities I mean? That would be terriffic to know. How do you communicate with them? A chant? Or some kind of phrase? I am just so interested to know. Thanks:)

  40. Thanks for producing a very fine website. And I’m very glad that you’ve chosen to continue with your podcasts. As of 2007, I’ve had many encounters with the Fair Folk, fortunately all have gone well. With that said, I wish you many good times, and keep up the good work!

  41. fiona, i absolutely love your website, its simplicity is perfect but full of great facts that i enjoy reading, i love gathering more information on faeries…
i also share the same problem as Arkro… and i would love to have some advice on helping me see a faerie…i know i have seen faeries before and i still do but i would like to befriend one if possible… this is a great love of my life and i would love to embrace it… but i need your help.

i would also like to thank you for having this website up for people to read and enjoy…it very helpful!
as to people like Ted who dont believe in the magnificent magic around us, why did you bother reading this and then writing a comment…this is our space to enjoy not yours so please dont spoil it for people who embrace it.

thanks again fiona for having a wonderful website up for me to appreciate…

  42. Have you ever heard that fairies can’t lie? Probably, huh? I wonder why. I hope to become an author one day (I’m 14 now) and I had this character state why he thinks his own kind can’t lie (haven’t written the story down yet though…). Why do you think they can’t lie, if you think they can’t. ^^ Thank you.

  43. Annabelle, I’ve never heard that faeries can’t lie. Of course, they seem to care so little about people’s reactions — and they’re so often mischievous — I’m sure that some faeries never lie.

It’s a good device for a story. Keep writing! I look forward to seeing your stories in print, some day.

    Cheerfully, Fiona

  44. bekee,

Thanks for your comments! I’m always happy to meet others who are as fascinated with faeries as I am.

    Cheerfully, Fiona

  45. Whitefoxx,

Thank you! I’m continuing the podcasts every two weeks, and I’ll be delving more deeply into faerie facts and folklore in future podcasts.

    Cheerfully, Fiona

  46. Sam,

There are no simple answers to your questions. Faeries seem to connect with the land, so any place in nature is probably a good starting point.

Different faeries behave in different ways, with different abilities… the same as humans are very different, one from another.

Most communication seems to be telepathic, but that’s just a guess.

    I hope that helps!

    Cheerfully, Fiona

  47. I just want to make this clear for those who think faeries are actually demons or evil spirits fooling people.
Sure, there are , no doubt, demonic entities who DO Pretend to be faeries and DO fool people. Demons also imitate angels as well- and yet both angesl and faeries actually exist.

I am a non-denominational Christian– and I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior– and hope to accept Him even more– After praying to Jesus to allow me to meet one of these Nature Guardians– I left the timing up to Him as to when , how , where, etc..
Well guess what!! a month later, my prayer was answered unexpectedly. My sister and father got into a huge family argument which left our household very quiet and depressive. I was very sad that following Monday and while just staring in my hair in the morning sunlight– I was taken off guard by someone looking at me with empathy and compassion — I looked towards that section of my hair and –gawking in complete shock, looked right into the eyes of a sweet Faery Being- very delicate and thin– soft cocoa brown skin and wide set eyes tilted up a bit. small delicate mouth, nose and chin– and high cheekbones and a high forehead. Her hair was pulled back. Her eyes were totally all dark chocolate brown with no irises. She looked very soft , regal and humble at the same time. I will never forget this encounter and how the Lord answered my prayer to meet one of these Beings. Her eyes had Christ’s light and empathy reflecting out of them.

Sure, there are no doubt those in the faerie realm who work on Satan’s side. The devil knows how to seduce anyone- wether humans, aliens, faery, gnomes, elves, angels, whoever.

I found out that morning, back on May 31, 2008 that God also has His Helpers of all Beings– not just humans– Many work on His side too. He allowed me to encounter one.

I can’t share this experience with my Christian friends– they are not ready to accept this — maybe after they die they will be shown– God permitted me to see. Maybe because I was ready for more truth.

Even those in other realms can’t wait to see Jesus’ High priestly prayer come to pass- the one He prayed with His disciples saying, “On Earth as in Heaven”.

After my beautiful encounter , I’ve also seen flying colored lights fly over our apple tree, dance at the ceiling of our living room after playing some music for the faery, and seeing a red light fly over some cars and head into a wooded area while I was coming home from our shopping mall… They are very real.
Be careful Christians, in judging these Beings as being of the devil. Many work for our Creator and they work hidden and do not normally call attention to themselves.

  48. I find iron is uncomfortable, like a buzzing or itching sensation, not really a burn, but I don’t think I’m all faery, just part. Maybe it’s stronger for one of more fey blood. I’ve also always been messy, and I see shadows or lights of faeries about my room sometimes, like they’re trying to clean up, so no, I don’t think you have to be well organized for them to come near you. I do have lots of shiny things in my room, though, including wind chimes of a high tone that remind me of faeries, because I like shiny. Faeries have good taste ^-^.
    ~Laura

  49. I think I’ve been attracting faeries lately. Though I fear I may have driven them away because I’ve always been uneasy with the idea of faeries being around me. I’ve always kind of thought they were bad luck since they like to play pranks and stuff and I don’t like pranks. I’ve had a rough experience lately with psychosis which made me fearful of any kind of spirit. The faeries came around to help me and I wasn’t sure whether they were truly there to help me or not, but some bad stuff happened and I automatically blamed them. I feel bad and I wish I could make it up to them somehow. I’d like to communicate to them that I’m scared and I feel too frail for pranks right now, but I’m not really sure how. Any input would be appreciated.

    Colleen

  50. Colleen,

It’s best to wait until you feel stronger. There are dark faeries and light ones — good and bad — and I wouldn’t recommend risking an encounter with one of the darker ones.

    Fiona

  51. dear coleen,

Fiona is right. i am not sure, but i have a feeling that if you try to call them while you are weak, the ones who work for Satan will take advantage of you. I have been trying to call them because i do believe. However, i am young and live with my parents. They would think that this is ridiculous and send me to a shrink. So, i attract them in secret. My family are very catholic, andI have been awaiting a worker of God. I believe that i do have some fae blood. i am 60-65% Irish, and have traced my bloodline back to old Ireland. I can sense dark presences, ( a dark presence feels very heavy and cold in a random spot, and can vary in size. they can even take up a whole room, which is not uncommon.) I wait in anticipation for one, and have seen them before, but paid them no regard. now that i know what they are, i want more to come. Just please wait to be stronger.

  52. I absulotly agree with everything you have said. Fearies ARE real they may not be seen, but they are. It takes an open mind to see them so, to those who think fearies are fake, forgive me but, try to gain an open mind, there is most defidentally more than what meets the eye.

  53. Very useful. I think it all depends on the species and Court (Unseelie vs. Seelie) though. It’s a wonder I even see them in my room, it’s so messy in here.

  54. Hi there
I really do believe in faeries and I think this website is cool.
Do you know if animals can always see faeries?
